WILTSHIRE’S air ambulance crews have been given the royal seal of approval.

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, visited the airborne medics at the county’s air ambulance base in Devizes.

During her visit to the charity’s base she said how much she admired the work of the charity which keeps the helicopter flying, as well as the dedication of its crew and paramedics.

As a gesture of support to fundraisers who raise money to keep the ambulance aloft she even bought several Wiltshire Air Ambulance toy mascots for her grandchildren.

While on the visit Camilla also met a number of people who had benefited from the air ambulance and heard about a petition gathered by the Swindon Advertiser’s sister title, the Gazette and Herald, on which members of the public pledged their support for the ambulance service.

Prince Charles was not permitted to sign the save coate petition even though he is passionate about green issues.
However, the address and name of the Environmental Law Foundation was sent to the group.
